Ghana's parliament on Friday approved a draconian anti-LGBTQ bill, months after it was reintroduced. The legislation is considered one of the most repressive anti-LGBTQ laws in Africa and is part of a broader crackdown on sexual minorities in West Africa.
Under the new law, the promotion, sponsorship, or intentional support of LGBTQ activities will be criminalized. Individuals found guilty of promoting these activities will face prison terms ranging from three to five years.
The law is now awaiting ratification by President John Mahama.
