Cornell suspends fraternity parties amid alleged sexual assault investigation

Cornell University President Michael Kotlikoff announced Tuesday that all parties and social events at fraternity houses are suspended for the remainder of the 2026-27 academic year. The decision comes as an alleged gang rape at one of the school's fraternities continues to fuel calls for accountability, and officials face scrutiny over the handling of 2024 rape allegations involving fraternity members.

As part of these measures, the university will work with New York State Police to allow independent criminal investigators to investigate sex crimes and reported sexual assaults on campus. Additionally, the university plans to add a case manager to assist those who report sexual misconduct in navigating the institution's procedures.

Fraternities that violate the sweeping ban on social events face immediate emergency suspensions.
