Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine overnight Thursday, targeting nine cities with missiles and drones. The hours-long barrage hit the capital city of Kyiv and other urban centers, though Ukrainian officials stated the attack was partly repelled.
According to the Russian Defence Ministry, the targets included industrial facilities, oil refineries, logistics hubs, and port infrastructure. Ukrainian officials further specified that the strikes hammered ports, industrial sites, and retailers' distribution facilities.
The barrage killed a 78-year-old woman in the southern Zaporizhzhia region and another person in the northern Kharkiv region. Following the attack, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy repeated calls for Ukraine's allies to send more ballistic missile defence packages to counter such strikes.
