Three hikers died last week from heat-related illnesses at Grand Canyon National Park. According to the National Parks Service, the three people died in two separate incidents, and emergency responders found the hikers already deceased on the trails.

Visitors are now being warned about extreme heat expected early next week. The U.S. National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat watch for midday Monday through Tuesday.

Forecasts indicate that temperatures could reach or exceed 110 degrees Fahrenheit at the low-elevation Phantom Ranch. Park officials advise visitors to avoid hiking on trails along the inner canyon between 10 am and 4 pm due to the extreme heat.
