Organizers have introduced a new rule stating that winning broadcasters will no longer be guaranteed the right to host the Eurovision song contest if their state is involved in an armed conflict or a sensitive geopolitical situation. This change is intended to ensure that the contest provides a safe and welcoming environment for all participants.
Under these new regulations, a winning broadcaster will be automatically ineligible to host if an armed conflict, a sensitive geopolitical situation, or any other situation materially affects the security, safety, or stability of their state or immediate region. This shift in policy could have particular significance for recent high-flyers such as Israel and Ukraine.
The EBU noted that it may commission an independent security assessment before deciding whether a winning country is capable of hosting the event safely. Despite these changes, the next show is currently due to take place in Bulgaria in 2027, following singer Dara's victory for the country in May.
