Paul Pelosi, 86, husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was charged Friday with a misdemeanor hit-and-run. The incident occurred on July 3 in Yountville, California, when Pelosi struck a legally parked, unoccupied car with his brown convertible. According to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, Pelosi briefly stopped before allegedly driving away. While no injuries were reported, the struck vehicle sustained major damage.
Napa County prosecutors also charged Pelosi with an infraction for making an unlawful turn. State law requires drivers involved in accidents resulting in property damage to stop and provide vehicle and license information. A spokesperson for the Pelosi family stated that Paul apologized to the owner of the vehicle and is assuming responsibility for the damage. His court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 14, and authorities noted that he did not have alcohol in his system at the time of the collision.
Public records indicate that Paul Pelosi has a history of traffic infractions stretching back to at least 2011. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence in Napa County. He was sentenced to five years of probation and five days in jail, serving two days in jail and one day in a work program. As part of his probation, he was required to pay thousands in fines and victim restitution, attend a three-month drinking driver class, and install an ignition interlock device. That same year, he was severely beaten with a hammer during an attack at his San Francisco home.
