European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is visiting Greenland to announce increased EU investment in the territory. The two-day visit serves as a show of support for Greenland and Denmark.
The EU is preparing a substantial investment package focusing on renewable energy, satellite communications, and critical minerals. Speaking at the World Economic Forum's annual meeting in Davos, von der Leyen described the move as a massive European investment surge intended to ramp up Arctic security.
These efforts to establish closer political ties come amid demands from US President Donald Trump for greater American control of the mineral-rich island. Greenland has previously rebuffed Trump's campaign to annex the territory.
