Virginia voters approved a referendum on Tuesday, April 21, to allow the redrawing of the state's congressional map. The measure passed by a slim margin, with 51.4 percent in favor and 48.5 percent against.
The redistricting plan is expected to give Democrats a strong advantage and could potentially help them flip up to four Republican-held House seats. Following the vote, a county judge moved to block the measure.
On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump claimed without evidence that the vote was rigged. These comments echoed his false allegations regarding the 2020 election. Trump has also pushed Republican states to redraw maps in an effort to support the Republican Party.
