The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration are investigating a multistate salmonella outbreak linked to jalapeno peppers from Mexico. The outbreak has sickened 345 people across 27 states, with the majority of cases reported in Minnesota and Colorado.
Federal health officials have traced the contaminated peppers back to a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico. To date, the outbreak has resulted in 36 hospitalizations, though no deaths have been reported.
In response to the findings, supplier Coast Citrus Distributors has initiated a recall of affected peppers that were sent to restaurants. The investigation into the outbreak remains ongoing.
