Slovenia's outgoing prime minister Robert Golob announced on Monday that his liberal Freedom Movement (GS) will go into opposition. Despite narrowly winning a parliamentary vote in March, Golob stated that he is unable to secure a majority coalition, deepening the country's political crisis.
The announcement opens the door for centre-right parties to form a government. Specifically, it allows runner-up and former three-time Premier Janez Janša, an admirer of US President Donald Trump, to seek a coalition in the EU member state of two million people.
Janša stated that he is in no rush to form a government and remains open to the possibility of a repeat election.
