Trump returned to office promising to eliminate campus antisemitism, which he claimed went unchecked during the Biden administration.
However, a former Justice Department attorney and whistleblower is now alleging that a Trump administration task force created to combat antisemitism pressured elite Ivy League universities into punitive settlements. According to the former lawyer, the administration pressured attorneys to investigate allegations at these institutions even though there was no factual or legal basis to do so.
These settlements were reportedly pushed despite a lack of evidence and little to no proof of systemic abuses. Critics maintain that the federal intervention has been heavy-handed, infringing upon free expression and forcing concessions from higher education institutions.
