President Donald Trump has called for a federal tax credit to benefit the movie and television industry. He stated that such a measure would help bring the production of Hollywood blockbusters back to the United States.
A beleaguered Hollywood has been lobbying for help to stop the flight of productions to other countries. The president noted that the loss of film and TV production is hurting California very badly, while proponents argue a federal program could bring back jobs lost overseas to cheap labor and large incentives.
The proposal was quickly embraced by Democrats, particularly in California, who have otherwise been critical of the president.
