North Korea has inaugurated the New Yalu River Bridge on Thursday, linking the country to China. This opening marks the second major bridge North Korea has opened to key trading partners within the last month, following the opening of its first road bridge with Russia weeks prior.
The 3km bridge was originally completed in 2014 but remained unused for over a decade. The long delay was due to a lack of connecting roads and customs facilities on the North Korean side.
The opening signals closer ties and further progress in bilateral relations between Beijing and Pyongyang. This development comes as the two countries continue to expand trade despite international sanctions imposed on North Korea.
