Tennis legend Serena Williams, widely regarded as the greatest female tennis player of all time, will make a surprise return to the Wimbledon ladies' singles competition. The All England Club announced on Sunday that the seven-time champion has been awarded the tournament's final wildcard.
Williams has been mostly absent from professional competition for nearly four years, though she recently returned to play doubles. This return to singles action follows a period of absence from the tournament, with reports indicating her last appearance was either in 2022 or six years ago.
The 44-year-old will also compete alongside her sister Venus in doubles, as the pair accepted a wildcard entry into that draw. Williams is set to compete in the 2026 singles competition later this month.
