The Israeli military conducted an airstrike on Wednesday in the Haret Hreik neighborhood of Beirut's southern suburbs, targeting the commander of Hezbollah's elite Radwan force. This marks the first Israeli attack on the Lebanese capital since a ceasefire went into effect in mid-April.
In a joint statement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said the operation aimed to neutralize the commander, asserting that the Radwan operatives led by this individual were responsible for harming IDF soldiers and firing at Israeli communities.
Beyond the capital, violence continues across Lebanon. The town of Zellaya was hit shortly before the Israeli army issued an evacuation warning, and forced displacement orders were issued for 12 villages in southern Lebanon. Additionally, at least 11 other people were killed in strikes across the south and east.
Despite the ceasefire agreement, Israeli forces and Hezbollah have traded fire daily. As the truce in southern Lebanon frays, Iran stated that it is still reviewing a US peace proposal.
