A South Korean appeals court on Wednesday sentenced ousted President Yoon Suk Yeol to seven years in prison. The court increased the sentence from a previous five years following charges stemming from his failed bid to impose martial law.

The charges included obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, and bypassing a legitimate Cabinet meeting before the brief imposition of martial law in December 2024.

In a separate trial, Yoon was also handed a life sentence for leading an insurrection. This more serious crime was also a result of his failed attempt to impose martial law in 2024.
