Switzerland's World Cup squad has traveled to the United States without first-choice forward Breel Embolo. The player was unable to join the team on Tuesday after his ESTA authorization was placed under review, resulting in him being denied boarding on the squad's flight.
In response to the situation, Embolo attended an appointment at the U.S. Embassy in Bern on Wednesday to submit an application for an urgent visa.
The Swiss football federation confirmed that the forward is still awaiting travel clearance. Embolo is a key player for the national team, having recorded 24 goals in 86 international appearances.
