Soren Waerenskjold takes maiden win in fastest ever Tour de France stage 11

sports athletics

Norway's Soren Waerenskjold claimed his first victory of the season and a Tour de France stage win for Uno-X Mobility on Wednesday. Waerenskjold won the 161.3-km Stage 11 from Vichy to Nevers, using a long-range sprint that caught the favorites by surprise.

At an average speed of 50.91kph, the event marked the fastest road stage in the 113 editions of the race's history. The finish was characterized by a nervy run-in in which the peloton fanned out across narrow roads as teams battled for position before the Norwegian launched his decisive move.

Waerenskjold finished ahead of Dutch rider Olav Kooij, with Belgium's Jasper Philipsen taking third place. The win represented a remarkable turnaround for the Norwegian, who had finished last on the stage to Le Lioran just one day prior.

In the general classification, Tadej Pogačar protected his overall lead.
