Russia and Ukraine escalate drone attacks amid offensive

armed conflict defense & military

Russia launched a massive assault on Ukraine involving nearly 1,000 drones and dozens of missiles in a 24-hour period, marking a significant escalation and potentially the start of its spring offensive. The attacks targeted multiple locations across Ukraine, including an energy facility in the Chernihiv region, leaving approximately 150,000 people without power.

Ukraine reported eight deaths as a result of the bombardment, which included the largest single-day drone assault of the war. Simultaneously, Russia claimed to have downed nearly 400 incoming Ukrainian drones, representing the largest reported overnight attack on Russian regions and Crimea since the invasion began.

Moscow’s forces are intensifying attacks in southern Ukraine following recent Ukrainian gains. A Ukrainian drone attack also ignited oil facilities at a Russian port. President Zelensky stated the attacks demonstrate Russia has “no intention of ending the war.”
