Israeli strikes in Gaza kill Al Jazeera cameraman Ahmed Wishah and others

armed conflict

Ahmed Wishah, a cameraman for Al Jazeera, was killed by an Israeli strike on Saturday targeting a house in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza. Wishah is one of at least 260 Palestinian journalists killed since Israel's war on Gaza began in October 2023.

The death follows the killing of Wishah's brother, also an Al Jazeera journalist, who was killed in a separate strike less than three months ago. Al Jazeera strongly condemned the killing of the Al Jazeera Mubasher correspondent, while an Israeli military spokesman confirmed the strike and alleged that the cameraman was a Hamas terrorist.

The Gaza Strip remains gripped by bloodshed as progress on permanently ending the war stalls. Despite a US-brokered ceasefire in October, Israel has repeatedly violated the agreement. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, near-daily Israeli attacks have killed over 1,000 Palestinians since that ceasefire.
