Trump administration announces $17.5 billion in loans for 10 nuclear reactors

The Trump administration is providing $17.5 billion to speed the development of 10 new large nuclear reactors. This initiative is designed to meet the skyrocketing power demand coming from massive data centers.

The U.S. Department of Energy announced Tuesday that it will offer the $17.5 billion in loans for a nuclear supply chain to finance five energy projects. Each of these five projects will host two big nuclear reactors.

The federal government intends to help utilities buy large components and will let them tap government funds to kick-start reactor orders. It is currently unclear which companies might participate in the program.
