The Women's Tennis Association has updated its eligibility policy, requiring all players to clear a one-time gene test to compete on the women's tour. The mandatory requirement becomes effective this Tuesday following the update announced on Sunday.
Players will be required to undergo genetic sex testing for the SRY gene. The WTA stated that this specific gene test helps to determine biological sex.
The one-off testing is a requirement for players intending to compete at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
