Russell Westbrook announced his retirement from the NBA on Wednesday. The 37-year-old veteran concludes a professional career spanning 18 seasons, during which he played for seven different teams.
A former Most Valuable Player, Westbrook was named the league's MVP in 2017. During that stellar 2016-17 season, he recorded a record 42 triple-doubles. He retires as the NBA's career leader in triple-doubles with a total of 209.
A nine-time All-Star, Westbrook was also selected for the league's 75th anniversary team. He leaves the game ranking fifth all-time in career assists with 10,351 and 14th in scoring with 27,176.
