US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will require its officers to record vehicle stops with at least one body camera, announced Trump administration border czar Tom Homan on Sunday.
The requirement comes amid renewed scrutiny of the agency after federal immigration agents fatally shot two men in Texas and Maine earlier this month. The two fatal shootings occurred six days apart during traffic stops.
Speaking on the Fox & Friends Weekend program, Homan stated that body cameras are the way to go because he wants the American people to see what officers saw when they took action. He noted that these cameras often exonerate more law enforcement than they convict.
The Trump administration has attributed previous delays in federal agents wearing body cameras to Democrat-led government shutdowns.
