Two young women died on Sunday after a small boat carrying migrants attempting to cross from northern France to the UK ran aground near Calais. French authorities reported that the vessel, which was carrying approximately 82 people, experienced engine trouble before running aground on a beach.
Local French administration officials stated that the boat capsized during the attempt. In addition to the two fatalities, 16 other people were left injured.
French government officials also noted that the number of people reaching Britain from France has dropped significantly this year compared with 2025.
