EU Probes Snapchat, Targets Porn Sites Over Child Safety

social media

Snapchat is under investigation by European Union regulators amid concerns over child safety and the sale of illegal goods. The EU warned the platform appears insufficient in preventing child grooming and access to inappropriate content.

Regulators accuse Snapchat of maintaining a weak age-verification system and potentially directing younger users towards harmful experiences. There are suspicions adults are posing as youth on the app to engage in illegal activities, including sexual exploitation.

The investigation comes as the EU escalates efforts to protect children online, also issuing warnings to pornography platforms Pornhub, Stripchat, XNXX, and XVideos regarding access to adult content by minors.

Snapchat has approximately 97 million monthly active users within the 27-nation EU bloc.
