Spain's Health Ministry announced on Monday that a Spanish national who was evacuated from the MV Hondius cruise ship has tested positive for hantavirus. This is the second positive case identified among 14 Spanish nationals who were evacuated to the island of Tenerife from the vessel.

The infected individual, who was initially in quarantine at a Madrid military hospital, has been moved to an isolation unit at the Gómez Ulla Hospital. The MV Hondius was carrying approximately 150 passengers and crew from 23 countries when a cluster of severe respiratory illnesses was first reported to the World Health Organization on May 2.

The outbreak linked to the cruise ship has killed three people. While 12 Spaniards remain in medical quarantine, the Health Ministry stated that detecting the case among those already isolated does not modify the risk situation for the general population. The World Health Organization has described the outbreak as stable for now.
