Israel weighs Lebanon ceasefire amid ongoing strikes and talks

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated Israeli forces are continuing strikes against Hezbollah and approaching their stronghold in Bint Jbeil, amid increasing calls for a ceasefire. This comes as Israel’s security cabinet convened to discuss a potential truce with Lebanon, over six weeks into the conflict.

Talks between Israel and Lebanon, facilitated by the U.S., were described as a “historic milestone” though Washington did not request a halt to Israeli strikes or withdrawal from Lebanese territory. Pressure is mounting on Netanyahu’s government from Washington to reach a ceasefire agreement.

Hezbollah reported launching rockets towards ten areas in northern Israel. Discussions are also underway regarding further talks between U.S. and Iranian officials, potentially resuming in Pakistan soon. Israel previously discussed a ceasefire on April 15.
