Senegal Appeals CAS Over Stripped AFCON Title

sports football legal proceedings

Senegal is appealing a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to strip the nation of its Africa Cup of Nations title. The appeal was lodged with the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Wednesday, following CAF’s overturning of the final result.

The dispute stems from a walkout by Senegalese players during the final match, leading CAF to award the championship to Morocco. Senegal’s soccer federation maintains the decision was wrong and is seeking to have the title restored.

The head of Senegal’s soccer governing body has pledged a “crusade” against the ruling. The Court of Arbitration for Sport has stated it will address the appeal “as swiftly as possible,” aiming to resolve the matter quickly. Senegal hopes to overturn CAF’s decision and reclaim the championship.
