Joe diGenova, a loyal ally of President Donald Trump, has resigned from his position leading a Justice Department investigation. DiGenova had been tapped by Attorney General Todd Blanche to supervise a sprawling criminal investigation into whether former law enforcement and intelligence officials conspired against the Republican president.

The probe, described as a grand conspiracy investigation targeting Obama and Biden-era officials, focused on the intelligence assessment that Russia interfered in the 2016 election. DiGenova indicated that he submitted his resignation to the attorney general amid disagreements over the pace of the investigation into Trump's political foes.

DiGenova, 81, who was part of a group that tried to overturn the 2020 election, called it an honor and a privilege to serve Trump and the Justice Department.
