Tesla’s Self-Driving Systems Face Intensified U.S. Safety Probe
U.S. auto safety regulators are intensifying their investigation into Tesla’s “Full-Self Driving” system. The probe has been escalated following additional crashes, raising concerns about the technology’s performance, particularly in conditions with reduced visibility. The investigation is evaluating the system’s ability to identify degraded road conditions. To date, nine crashes – including one fatality – have been linked to the driver-assistance technology. Federal regulators found further instances of Tesla’s driving software struggling in low-visibility scenarios. This escalation comes as Tesla CEO Elon Musk prepares to launch a new vehicle model without traditional steering wheels or pedals. The ongoing probe could lead to a recall campaign or other enforcement actions against the automaker.
