Indiana has been hammered over the past week by record heavy rains, resulting in surging rivers and creeks. Six people have died since the storms began on August 11, including a 4-year-old boy, two men, and three women, according to Liz Woods, a spokesperson for the state Department of Homeland Security.

Governor Mike Braun has requested a presidential emergency declaration to secure federal resources. The governor stated that the US government has promised assistance following the week of heavy rainfall.

In Indianapolis, Mayor Joe Hogsett urged residents along the White River to evacuate on Saturday. The National Weather Service warned that heavy rain and flash flooding remain possible throughout the day across central areas of the state, including Indianapolis.
