Energy Secretary says gas prices may not drop below $3 until 2027

Average gasoline prices in the United States have experienced a massive spike from just months ago and are currently more than $4 per gallon. During a TV interview with CNN, Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that he does not know when prices will come down.

When asked by host Jake Tapper when it is realistic for Americans to expect gas to return to under $3 a gallon, Wright replied that it could happen later this year or perhaps not until next year. He further acknowledged that prices might not drop below $3 a gallon until 2027.

Wright's comments contradict Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s prediction of relief by summer. Furthermore, the Energy Secretary's acknowledgment undercuts President Trump’s earlier claim that the price increases would be short-term.
