Lionel Jospin, former French prime minister, has died at the age of 88. He led the government from 1997 to 2002.
During his time as prime minister, Jospin introduced significant social reforms including the 35-hour work week, extended free healthcare, and civil partnerships granting equal rights to unmarried couples.
Jospin’s political career saw him trail in presidential polls in 2002, when far-right leader Jean-Marie Le Pen reached the runoff. His family announced his death on Monday.
