US Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky has been absent from the Senate since June 14, after being hospitalized following a fall at his home. The former Senate majority leader has not been seen in public since mid-June.
A health update released Monday, accompanied by a new photograph, confirmed that the Republican lawmaker is not yet cleared to return to in-person work. According to the official physician of the US Capitol, McConnell is currently undergoing intense physical therapy and is working hard to return to his duties.
The senator, his office, and his wife had largely remained silent following the hospitalization, which sparked speculation regarding his condition. McConnell eventually pushed back on rumors of more serious health issues, revealing that he had been hospitalized due to the fall.
Additionally, McConnell's office shared a press release that included a written statement from the senator apologizing for being unable to attend an annual Kentucky picnic.
