Nine European Union member states have called on Brussels to stop funding sports bodies that have re-admitted athletes from Russia and Belarus. Among the organizations targeted for funding cuts is the International Olympic Committee.

Estonia's ministry of culture announced on Tuesday that the nine European nations are urging the European Union to cut financial support for sports bodies that have allowed these athletes to return to competition.

The International Olympic Committee has since defended its decision to provisionally lift the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee.
