Madonna, Shakira, and K-pop supergroup BTS will headline the first-ever halftime show at a FIFA World Cup final. Organized by FIFA and The Muppets, the Super Bowl-style extravaganza is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and will be curated by Coldplay singer Chris Martin.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino stated that the show will bring together music, football, and a shared commitment to improving the lives of children globally. The event will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund to help create greater access to quality education and football for children worldwide.
The 48-team World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will run from June 11 to July 19. This tournament will feature 104 matches, an increase from the previous 64, and will include an additional knockout round.
The previous World Cup final attracted more than 500 million live viewers. Last year's Club World Cup in North America served as a test run for the halftime show format, featuring performances from Doja Cat, J Balvin, and Tems.
