A whistleblower, described as a federal official, has warned that the U.S. Postal Service is rushing to launch an error-riddled computer system that could jeopardize mail voting. The official disclosed this information to Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal, warning that the secret implementation of new mail-voting policies could disrupt the midterm elections.
The system was developed following an executive order from President Trump to restrict mail voting and vet ballots. While such a project typically takes a year, the USPS rushed to build the complex system in only three months. Although the executive order is currently stymied and halted in the courts, the anonymous official claims the Postal Service illegally defied court orders through a secretive and rushed process to implement the new rules.
The whistleblower warns that the rushed portal could reject large batches of ballots, potentially derailing the midterm election if courts allow it to proceed. This development could jeopardize the process of mail voting relied upon by one-third of all voters.
