President Zelenskyy spent just over an hour with Trump, seeking to reinforce warming relations and secure stronger military cooperation. As Kyiv and Moscow intensify long-range strikes amid stalled peace efforts, Zelenskyy pressed for additional firepower for air defenses. Discussions specifically included the joint production of Patriot missiles in Ukraine and ways for the country to produce its own powerful weapons to bolster defenses against Russian aerial attacks.
Prime Minister Netanyahu used the visit to attempt to repair a strained relationship with the U.S. president. This marked Netanyahu’s first visit to the Oval Office since he and Trump launched a joint military campaign against Iran on February 28. The talks occurred amid White House frustration over Middle East conflicts and ongoing differences regarding Iran.
The meetings come at a time when U.S. foreign policy is shifting. Since returning to power early last year, Trump has halted direct U.S. arms deliveries to Kyiv in favor of a program allowing European countries to buy weapons for Ukraine. Additionally, Trump recently suggested that Ukrainian strikes inside Russia could help end the war.
