President Trump has publicly discussed the possibility of seizing Iran’s Kharg Island oil terminal, a key hub for the country’s crude oil exports. The president indicated a desire to “take the oil” and considered sending forces to the Persian Gulf island, which handles approximately 90% of Iran’s oil exports, largely destined for China and Asian markets.
Speaking to reporters, Trump framed potential action as a “sign of respect” and claimed the U.S. had already achieved “regime change” in Iran. The possibility of seizing the terminal, Iran’s main oil export hub, would involve an invasion and occupation of the island.
These statements come amidst ongoing attacks against Iran by the U.S. and Israel. However, there are also indications of progress in early-stage ceasefire negotiations.
