Péter Magyar has taken power after securing a two-thirds majority in the recent election, ending Viktor Orbán’s 16-year tenure. Many Hungarians are now keen to see Magyar chart a new political course.
As part of efforts to dismantle the symbols of his predecessor’s rule, Prime Minister Magyar is opening Orbán’s offices to the public. This initiative includes the removal of fences that surrounded a historic building in Budapest and efforts to tackle costly building projects around Buda castle.
Magyar has also laid bare the luxurious lifestyle of his predecessor. Additionally, the new administration is addressing the emergency governance framework, which was first introduced by the government of Viktor Orbán in 2020 as part of measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
