Russian attacks across Ukraine have resulted in the deadliest strikes in weeks, killing at least 21 people and wounding at least 70 others. These strikes come as Russia prepares for its World War II Victory Day event this weekend.
On Tuesday afternoon, powerful Russian glide bombs hit the northern city of Chernihiv, the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, and the center of the eastern city of Kramatorsk. These attacks killed at least 17 civilians and wounded 45 others.
Ukrainian authorities also reported that drone and missile strikes targeting the power grid took place during the night on Tuesday. These overnight strikes killed at least five people and wounded 39 others.
The escalation occurs amid announced unilateral ceasefires. Kyiv said it would halt fire over May 6, while Moscow announced a ceasefire during its World War II victory celebrations over May 9.
