Record 129 Journalists Killed in 2025, Israel Involved

A record 129 journalists and media workers were killed in 2025 while working, marking the second consecutive year with a record death toll. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) attributes two-thirds of these deaths to Israeli forces. The CPJ report indicates Israel was responsible for 81% of the killings classified as murder and 84 of the 129 total deaths tracked. Additionally, the organization noted that a significant number of these deaths were the result of intentionally targeted killings. The report also highlighted a rise in the use of drones in the killing of journalists. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has strongly rejected the CPJ’s findings regarding responsibility for these deaths.
