A landslide struck the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing on Friday, burying several residential buildings and trapping an undetermined number of people. The incident occurred around 9:08 a.m. in Pengshui county.

Images showed a portion of a mountainside collapsing onto a residential area, resulting in the collapse of multiple buildings downhill. Pengshui County is situated in the southeast part of Chongqing, bordering the provinces of Hubei and Guizhou.

Search and rescue operations are currently ongoing. State media reported that at least eight people have been rescued from the debris.
