Sudan hospital strike kills at least 64, WHO reports

At least 64 people were killed, including 13 children, in a strike on a hospital in Sudan’s western Darfur region last week. The attack on the Al Daein Teaching Hospital in East Darfur also injured nearly 90 people and has rendered the facility non-functional.

The World Health Organization reported the strike, noting that over 2,000 people have been killed in attacks on medical facilities since the start of the conflict in Sudan. The war began in April 2023, stemming from a power struggle between the military and the Rapid Support Forces.

The Rapid Support Forces have blamed the military for the hospital strike, while the army denies involvement. Some military officials stated the strike targeted a nearby police station. The ongoing war has resulted in more than 40,000 deaths, though aid groups suggest the actual number is significantly higher.
