U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor declined on Monday to halt a judgment requiring Palestinian authorities to pay damages to plaintiffs in a U.S. civil lawsuit.
The long-running lawsuit was brought on behalf of Americans who were killed or injured in shootings and bombings in the Jerusalem area from 2002 to 2004. Those attacks resulted in 33 deaths.
The judgment amounts to $655.5 million, though some reports cite the total as $656 million. The Palestinian Authority has warned that paying these damages could destabilize services in the West Bank.
