Christa Pike, 50, survived a botched execution attempt by lethal injection in Tennessee on September 30. Despite receiving two doses of pentobarbital, the convicted murderer survived the effort to execute her for murdering a classmate when she was a teenager.

Pike was transported to the hospital in critical condition following the attempt. Her attorneys reported that she was up and walking and had begun eating again just over a week later.

On Saturday, 10 days after the botched execution, Pike was discharged from the hospital and transferred back to prison. Her attorneys, Stephen Ferrell, Luke Ihnen, Randy Spivey, and Kelly Gleason, stated that she has returned to the Deborah K Johnson rehabilitation center, where she has been imprisoned for the last 30 years. Her lawyers confirmed she will continue to receive medical care.

The incident has renewed scrutiny of capital punishment.
