Financial institutions based in the United Kingdom reported widespread disruption to their online services Tuesday after outages hit a significant portion of Google Cloud services. The disruptions began around 7 a.m. in London, affecting the tech giant's London region and impacting a number of banks in and around the city.
Among the affected institutions were Lloyds and Revolut Ltd. Revolut’s status page indicated that most of its services were unavailable or partially unavailable.
Google stated that a power outage at a data centre in London caused the serious network disruptions. While its engineering team investigated the issue, the company also noted that the cause for the outage was not immediately clear and gave no reason for the disruption.
