A coalition of states and cities is legally challenging the Trump administration’s decision to revoke a key scientific finding regarding greenhouse gases. Led by states including New York, California, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, the lawsuit argues the February rescission of the 2009 endangerment finding was illegal.
The 2009 finding determined greenhouse gases threaten public health and formed the basis for numerous US climate regulations. The administration described its reversal as a significant deregulatory action.
More than 20 states, along with 14 cities and counties, are involved in the legal challenge, seeking to overturn the administration’s decision and reinstate the original ruling. The case was filed in the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
