Otto Addo has been released from his position as head coach of Ghana’s national soccer team, effective immediately. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced the decision on Tuesday, leaving the team without a coach 72 days before the start of the 2026 World Cup.

The dismissal follows a recent string of defeats, including a 2-1 loss to Germany and a 5-1 defeat against Austria. This marks four consecutive losses in friendly matches for Ghana. Addo previously coached the team on an interim basis in 2022, including during the World Cup in Qatar.

Ghana is in Group L for the World Cup, alongside Croatia, England and Panama, with their first match scheduled for June 17 against Panama. The team also failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament. Addo, a former player for Ghana and Borussia Dortmund, had returned to the role in March 2024.
